Grievance Committee Update
We have filed a grievance regarding the pension indexing that the company did not pay August 1st 2010. If we do not get a favorable response from the company we will proceed either with the conventional arbitration process or through the Labour Relations Act.
Negotiations Information Meetings
Every Thursday 3:30 pm at the union hall downstairs. If you come to the meeting you will be informed as to what is going on with negotiations. This should keep the rumours in the plant to a minimum.
Vacation Pay Entitlement Arbitration Decision
We have received the decision from Arbitrator Kevin Burkett for our 2009 vacation pay. This award deals with two issues one being payment of vacation for any members that were recalled after July 1, 2009 and the second being the 15 week pre-retirement vacation pay. As for the first part he has awarded in favour of the company and for the second part he awarded in favour of the union. G-8 and G-20 Bus Trip To Toronto
Local 1005 USW and the Hamilton and District Labour Council will be participating in the G-8 and G-20 actions in
Toronto on Saturday, June 26, 2010 to oppose the G-8 and G-20.
Anyone interested in getting a ride to the G-20 rally on June 26th, call the Local 1005 union hall at 905-
547-1417.
Grievance Committee Update
We have a few grievances slated for Arbitration. The first one is a Discharge grievance which will be heard on July 14 & 15, 2010. The second one is a Contracting Out grievance to be heard on July 20, 2010. We are still waiting on the Arbitrators decision regarding our 2009 vacation. Hopefully we will receive this decision soon.

Ottawa Rally Bus Trip
We will be joining our brothers and sisters from USW Local 6500 in Ottawa on Thursday May 27, 2010. If anyone is interested we still have seats available the bus will be leaving the hall at 5:00am and we will be returning the same day contact either Rolf or Jake at the hall 905 547 1417.
2009 Vacation Arbitration
Our 2009 vacation pay arbitration is finally finished. We are waiting on the arbitrators decision which should take about 30 days (sometime in the first week of June). We will keep the membership informed when the decision comes in.
Grievance Committee Update
We will be going to arbitration on July 14 & 15, 2010 regarding a discharge of one of our members. These are the next two days of hearings as we had a previous hearing on April 1, 2010 for the same member.
We have resolved some contracting out grievances that were slated for arbitration. The resolve for these grievances are that the members that were effected will be paid a sum of money. These members will be notified of the amount to be paid and when to expect it on their pay.
